Studio FUNC is the creative label of Jan de Koning, Dutch, born 1982, living abroad. One person, no agency, no team: hospitality design and concepts, surfboards shaped since his twenties, objects and furniture, personal art, and Caught, a five-year screenshot series. Built on one principle: function before form.

The name started as a design principle, function before form, and became a way of working. Ten years running hospitality spaces taught me that good design isn't decoration, it's infrastructure. That thinking runs through everything: a hotel room, a surfboard, a piece of art, a house being built in Nicaragua.

FUNC is where it all lands. Hospitality design and concepts, if you need someone who's actually run the operation. Surfboards, shaped since my 20s under Holanda Custom Surfboards. Objects and furniture: a Vespa turned into a wardrobe, cabinets, lighting, whatever the workshop produces. Personal art, made from whatever's around: paint, scrap, old stamps. And Caught: five years of algorithm screenshots, assembled into ten large-format mosaics. A book about the hospitality years. A house in the jungle.
