Kingkool Staircase
A staircase from the 70s that was too expensive to fix properly. So we painted it instead.
Kingkool's a monumental building, but a fire took most of the original interior with it, except this staircase, which kept its 1970s textured plaster finish. The kind of texture you can't sand down or repaint cleanly without a full re-plaster, which was never in the budget. So it sat painted plain white for years. End of 2019, we gave it a full winter: every step, every wall, the ceiling, the lights, all repainted, each surface its own pattern. None of it reused from anything else I'd made: all one-offs, made for that staircase and nowhere else.
